Three main services are available to users of the Internet :  the World Wide Web, E-mail and FTP.

THE WORLD WIDE WEB :  This is a collection of hypertext files available for consultation over a simple telephone line.   The files are known as HTML (hypertext mark-up language) pages which can be perused just like a book.  You can find newspapers, magazines, dictionaries and lots of other resources.
But hypertext goes beyond the stage of simple consultation, and sometimes requires the user to be more active, completing feedback forms, answering interactive questionnaires, etc.

ELECTRONIC MAIL :  This is fast becoming the most widely used service on the internet.  Amongst its many advantages are its speed, and its low cost.    If you haven't yet got an e-mail account click here.  If you want an e-mail client that fits onto a diskette meaning you can consult and save your e-mail on any machine connected to the internet, then try here.  If you fancy joining a mailing list this selection could be of interest to you.

FTP (file transfer protocol) :  You can download many types of file, from drivers and patches to the latest  phonetic fonts and various free programs.  Follow this link for more information.
