The square is surrounded by five beautiful buildings, wonderful wrougth iron gold-plated gates, two magnificent foutains and a triumphal arch. Built during the years from 1751 to 1760, between old town and new town, Stanislas Square was firstly called royal square with the statue of King Louis the fifteenth at the centre of it. The statue was destroyed during the French Revolution. During the Restauration, the square was renamed Stanislas whose statue is unveiled in 1831.
