Le Ban sur Moselle Information about the village

Our village is located in the region of Lorraine, in the North Eastern part of France and to put it more precisely in the "département" of Moselle.

You will not find our village" Le Ban sur Moselle" on maps simply because we built it in our imagination and what we knew about geography, history, poetry and local legends helped us create every single house, every single street in it.

That is reason why the building of our village is based on geographical and historical elements of Moselle heritage.

As a matter of fact Banoises and Banois, this is what we call people living in" Le Ban sur Moselle", do not live far from Rivers Moselle, Nied, Sarre and their tributaries.

In the North, water has carved deep valleys in the plateau of the Côtes de Moselle. This area is called the Pays Haut, and is covered with forests.

The Valley of River Moselle lies between the Pays-Haut and the Plateau Lorrain. As a consequence  weather conditions are quite mild and people have always enjoyed such a pleasant area whether they worked  on farms or lived in towns.You will be able to find there our vineyards and our mirabelles, these famous round and yellow plums we are so proud of.

Finally in the East and South East there is a hilly area which is part of the wood-covered mountains of les Vosges whose underwood and clearing are appreciated.

As these terrains will not let water  get very deep, there are a lot of lakes and ponds ; some of them are natural, others have been dug by people themselves Moselle has got 196 preserved areas :lakes, chalky patches, peat bogs , swamps where uncommon plants grow and a great variety of animals live.

Our region used to be quite prosperous because both coal and iron ore were dug out .International financial competition forced Moselle to close down most of its pits and to develop new activities. As it is located in the centre of Europe, a place where a lot of people meet ,our region should do well in the future.
